Heavy Rain Could Cause Flooding and Landslides in Country, Officials Warn

Kathmandu: The country is currently experiencing the impact of monsoon winds, with the low-pressure trough positioned further south in the western part and north in the eastern part (near Nepal) compared to its average position.

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the weather is currently partly to generally cloudy across the country due to this weather system, with light to moderate rainfall occurring in some places across all provinces. Heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning has been reported in one or two places in the Koshi and Gandaki provinces. In the Tarai region of Madhes and Lumbini provinces, there is a possibility of gale-force winds at a few locations.

Today, the weather will remain cloudy throughout the country, with the possibility of light to moderate rainfall in all provinces during the afternoon. There is also a chance of heavy rain in certain areas of the Koshi and Gandaki provinces.

A 24-hour alert has been issued by the Meteorological Forecasting Division, warning of heavy rain in several parts of the country and gusty winds in the Tarai region. Precautions are advised to mitigate potential risks and damages. The Division has highlighted the potential impact on road and air transport, health services, agriculture, tourism, and the daily lives of people. It urges the public to remain alert and take necessary measures to ensure their safety.
